Means No Worries...

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Best lesson I've ever learnt...
Hakuna matata is a Swahili phrase that is literally translated as "There are no worries". It is sometimes translated as "no worries", although is more commonly used similarly to the English phrase "no problem".

Timone: Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase
Pumba: Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze
Timone:It means no worries for the rest of your days
Timone and Pumba: It's our problem-free philosophy
Timone: Hakuna Matata!
Simba: Hakuna Matata?
Pumba: Yeah. It's our motto!
Simba: What's a motto?
Timone: Nothing. What's a-motto with you?

Pumba: Those two words will solve all your problems...

Its very probable, possible, most likely a fact , that I miss you...

....seek out the best books....

Today I sat and saw this:

This book made me laugh.

Im sure you're not too grown up to not chuckle a little too.

I recommend you read.

This is, indeed, one of the best books Ive read ;)

Best Class Ever

This year, Im studying a Bachelor of Animal Science at the University of Adelaide.
Those of you who have known me most of my life have known Ive ALWAYS wanted to be a Veterinarian.
This is my dream, and doing Animal Science is what you do if you didn't quite cut it for the Pre-Vet course.

I'm going to get there.
Most definitely.

While the 'Science' part of the course is a little tough (physics, chemistry, biology and math), the 'Animal' part is....well.....stunningly AWESOME! :D

So far, Ive learnt about chickens and pigs. My assignment is to write a paper on an animal from a list of species and our group assignment is to research having a wildlife rescue center on-campus.
I love it.
Seriously.

Thursdays are my favourite school day! Because i get to learn about animals ALL day and they call it school!!

The very best bit though, is the Practicals.
Hands on, animal handling! Last week, i handled chickens. That was really funny but tough because you have to kinda sneak up and grab their legs to catch them!
(image from here)

This week I did sheep. I got to 'throw' a sheep (which is sort of tackling them into a sitting position so they go all floppy, which is tough because they are HEAVY) and learn how to vaccinate them and fun things like that. Yesterday I decided I really like sheep, they are so cute in their mannerisms and behaviours!

Because of OHS, we have to wear big boots and these hideous jumpsuits, so not only do we get to handle animals, we get to dress up to do it! and dressing up is perhaps one of my favourite things to do!
Animal Science, I love you!
Me and My Jumpsuit and Boots...HOT.

Taming the Lions Mane.

Can I write an entire post about the singular act of getting my hair cut??
YES.
Yes, I can:

So for the first time in maybe a year and a half....
I got my hair cut.

Over the years my hair has suffered being bleached, dyed brown, then burnt, cut, teased, mudded, snapped and almost styled in every way imaginable. As hair does.
Gradually the brown dye faded out to leave behind brassy brittle dead reddish curls. It went into dreadlocks if i didn't brush it, and at times when I tried to run my hand through it i'd find little surprises that failed to escape my Devil's Snare of a hair-do, like flower petals or leaves. The shaggy curls would blind people if i turned around too fast, cushion my head enabling me to sleep anywhere at all, shield my face from unwanted stares and best of all, keep me toasty warm in winter. If it got in the way, I'd simply tie it in a knot......and it would stay there. And so it grew very long and wild..................... (see the resemblance?)

I loved my hair despite its ugliness. I felt like Rapunzel on more than one occasion.

And then I moved to Adelaide. New lifestyle didnt suit my lions mane. The heat for starters, drove me insane with my blanket hair, and it looked terrible if i put it up. Ive been busier than usual, more active, and as a result it went dread-locky quicker than usual and when it got in the way, tying it in a knot just didn't do the job. The knot would come undone at awkward moments, causing my already unco-ordinated self to lose sight of where I was walking = fall down/ trip/ take the person infront of me down too.

So the decision was made. The mane had to go.

So new friend Tobias offered to tame the Lions Mane.
This was no simple feat. Hair-dresser by trade or not....I think it would scare anyone!
But he did it!!
All my beautiful dead hair....

My new fringed, short, healthy hair!

Its Shorter now!
Massive applause for Tobias! He tamed my Lions Mane!
It wasnt easy (well atleast for me)- it took a couple of extremely painful minutes to brush it (after not brushing my hair for 2 weeks...this HURT), he had to dunk my head in water to tame the boofyness and the hair dryer even ate my hair a few times for good measure, but he did it.
And its amazingly soft now. Rapunzel length is gone. Not a trace of any unfortunate trapped flowers or twigs and even though Ive neglected it already since the cut, there is no sign of dread-locking at all. It doesnt even knot. Its all smooth silky bouncy curls now. I even have a fringe.
My mane is now actual pretty hair.

But despite the fact that having less hair is much more convienient, feels better and i think it looks better....

....I cant help but to miss my lions mane....

....just a little....

Boys...boys...

Friday, March 11, 2011

Haha!
I bet the title of this post got your attention! ;)

So much is happening here in Adelaide, I dont even recognise myself!
Tasmanian Bek-essentially a homebody early-to-bed anti-social type, she was content to be alone and didnt miss people when they were with her or not. She is completely NOT into the whole 'dating' thing, and she never made an effort due to crippling shyness if Prince Charming appeared suddenly right under her nose!

Adelaide Bek- who IS this girl?! She's out late socializing, a chronic Facebook junkie when she's home, she talks to EVERYONE and when she's not with everyone, she wants to be. And suddenly her eyes are noticing that Handsome charming young men are everywhere! And she smiles at them without any trace of shyness at all?!

Oh man....
Its not uncommon to hear me saying to myself
'Who ARE you? What are you even DOING!!!?' lol

Well I think this is all just because everything is new and exciting. I wonder when it will wear off but i think Im going to enjoy this confident, blessed and cheerful girl while she lasts!

Sometimes I used to always think I'd end up a lonely Cat Lady(below)....but here.. I dont think that so much ;)

So this is a post to say...Adelaide has changed my perspective on boys.
Oh dear! :P lol

iPads...

So because we chose to do a zillion Science courses, and chose to go to the University of Adelaide...
We got a free iPad.
To keep.
Forever.
And now we are all very sad addicted people. Social interaction is minimal unless its Facebook ;)

Jokes! We're not that bad! But on this particular day....
.... why yes, yes we were  ;)

For You, The Special One in a Million....

Monday, March 7, 2011

For you....
(picture from here)

You are one in a Million
There will never be another person like you
You are brighter and happier than the sun
There are so many things that you do

I tell you all the things on my mind
You are always there when I need you
You tell me Im special and one of a kind
But to all, you're that special too

Every gift you give is a precious piece of you
And still you give after everything you've been through
There is no one else I would rather look up to
But I've always looked up to you

I hope you find all your dreams in life
The faith you have been searching for
After all of your pain and strife
No one can deserve that more.

Time goes by, day turns to night
And memories start to fade
But time can never change what's right
Even when your taken far away

People like you dont come by everyday
Your happiness and love warm those you meet
Your dreams are in my heart always
Filling me up, making me complete

Entrusted to you, you have taken care
Of the tender thoughts you've collected
Whenever your needed you've always been there
In your eyes, we're all perfected

My dear friend, keeper of the magic of a smile
Never forget, that things like this are rare to see
So promise me, you'll remember once in a while
That you made all the difference in me.
